POSITION Papa & Barkley is seeking a self-directed and experienced Controller to oversee the accounting and finance functions for this privately-held consumer products company. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in finance/accounting in a manufacturing environment and will have demonstrated the ability to lead a team in a collaborative and inclusive manner. The ideal candidate will be drawn to the fluidity and pace of a high-growth organization, will excel at effectively presenting data and engaging with an executive team to support financial planning, and will have a passion for the cannabis industry. The Controller will oversee a team of three bookkeepers comprised of one internal staff member and two team members from an outsourced service provider. The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will be based in Papa & Barkley’s offices in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. The position will require travel at least once per month to the P&B Labs manufacturing facility in Eureka, CA. RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee daily functions of billing, A/P, A/R, cash management, inventory accounting and cost accounting. Develop internal controls to ensure the integrity of all accounting records. Produce timely and accurate periodic financial statements including P&L and Balance Sheet. Conduct monthly account reconciliations; manage month-end and year-end close. Lead budget preparation and forecasting. Ensure complete and accurate tax accounting and compliance in conjunction with a third-party provider. Organize information and statements for periodic audits. Coordinate with the Human Resources Manager on payroll process. QUALIFICATIONS 7+ years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience 3+ years leading an accounting department or team Previous experience in accounting in manufacturing or consumer products Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, business, statistics or finance preferred Preference given to candidates with a CPA or CMA designation Proficiency with accounting software and experience with system implementation a plus Job Type: Full-time Required experience: Accounting: 7 years Required education: Bachelor's Job Location: Los Angeles, CA Required license or certification: CPA OR CMA
